1. Basic Repair Kit
Whether you are going on a short or long ride it is always good to bring a spare inner tube, tire levers, patch kit, mini-pump or CO2 and a multi-tool. All fit perfectly into a saddle or frame bag so you'll never be without your kit! These items insure that minor mechanical issues don't become ride-ending.
2. Hydration & Nutrition
Staying hydrated, especially in the Texas heat, is necessary for a successful ride. Bringing plenty of water or Skratch hydration mix is key, no matter the temperature. Grabbing a GU or energy bar to throw in your pocket can be the perfect boost needed for the push back home.
3. Cash/Card
Your just going on a bike ride, why do you need money? While riding you don't know whats going to happen. Being prepared for purchases such as an extra snack, a refill on your water, bike repair or simply a beer at your destination, you'll be covered!
4. Personal Items
In the unfortunate event that you are in an accident, its also good to have your ID or other identification on you. This helps others or emergency personnel verify your identity if you are unable to speak. In this day and age, it is also important to bring a mask or face covering with you, as many businesses require them to enter. Other items like sunscreen, lip balm, sunglasses and hand wipes are always good items to keep on hand for any ride.
5. Cell Phone
Being miles from home with a mechanical issue, lost or simply exhausted, calling someone to pick you up is your best last resort.
